We were asked by previous clients to be involved from the early stages of a new project to restore the gardens surrounding a Victorian Villa in Surrey.

The original garden had been lost over time, as the house had been used as a B&B in a previous life. During construction we even found the original swimming pool buried under the lawn. Apart from some lovely original walls and a semi mature copper beech tree, the garden was a blank canvas.

Having been one large open area, it was important to establish a good underlying structure to the garden. We divided the space into separate garden rooms, each conjuring up a different feeling, or having a different purpose. The swimming pool garden has a calm elegancy with its simple layout, while other areas have a softer romantic feel. We are also now adding a greenhouse and small productive garden.

The garden needed to work well all year round, providing winter interest, at the same time as improving screening of neighbouring properties. Clipped topiary and parasol trees added character and a sense of fun, while providing year-round structure.

We are looking forward to planting up this garden and seeing it evolve over time.
